Chapter Eight

In a matter of seconds, our opponents moved stealthily around me, and it was hard to track their movements in the growing shadows of twilight. The ninja figures flipped about and moved in closer, but I took a deep breath before I harnessed as much primal energy as my body could hold.

I knew two things for sure: we were surrounded, but these motherfuckers didn’t know who they’d just attacked.

They had no idea what the fabled Ulvant was capable of, but I was more than happy to show them exactly who I was.

It was like lightning had struck my body, but in the best way imaginable. I felt alive and drunk with power, and I knew I could master the blinding urge to release it all at once. I tightly gripped the energy with my willpower, and I held onto it with all my might until it began to feel more manageable.

Then I focused my intent on my cat form, and I envisioned a mouthful of feline fangs as well as curved, dagger-like claws. When I looked down at my feet, the furry paws of a wolf still greeted my eyes, but when I reached up to feel my ears, they were distinctly feline. My front paws, arms and fangs were feline, but my legs and back felt very wolf-like. I was an even mixture of the two forms, but I didn’t know how long I could maintain it for.

Damn.

Well, that was interesting, but I didn’t have a lot of time to play around with the transformation in order to master it. I needed to do some more training eventually, but finding the time and energy in the midst of the manhunt was almost impossible.

I was still struggling to master my cat form, but for the moment, this halfway form would have to do. I cast a sideways glance at Luxe and Willow as the ninja-like shifters moved in closer, but the two women stared at our enemies with looks of grim determination on their faces, so I focused on our opponents.

They smelled reptilian to my enhanced sense of smell, and I wondered if they were geckos.

Things just got stranger and stranger around Shyfeterran.

Then things got interesting.

The shifter ninjas steadily drew closer, so I charged forward with a yowl of rage. I grabbed at one with my mouth full of deadly fangs, but the bastard was quick and light on his feet. My other opponents also jumped back out of the way just in time to avoid my fangs, and I bit down on empty air. Then I felt a kick hit me in the ribs, and I was launched sideways away from the direction of the impact.

“Get the fuck away from me!” Luxe shouted as she batted away the kicks and punches of
